The Wild Belongs to Anyone Who'll Sit and Watch It
Sign Wild Adventures works alongside Kenya’s deaf community because a safari shouldn’t depend on how well you hear the guide. It should depend on how well you watch.
That’s the whole idea behind the name: every trip runs on two languages at once, spoken and signed, and nobody’s left reading a summary of the good part after everyone else has already seen it.
James has spent over 25 years reading Kenya and Tanzania’s wild places — leading game drives, nature walks and multi-day itineraries for travellers from all over the world. He’s a Gold Level guide with the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association, the highest grade the association awards, earned through years of study in ecology and human heritage with National Museums of Kenya, Nature Kenya and the Suyian Trust.
He’s guided for some of the biggest names in international travel — Gate 1, Road Scholar, Collette, Vantage and more — in English, Kiswahili, French and Kikuyu. A few years ago he added another language to that list: Kenyan Sign Language, so that a deaf traveller in his vehicle gets the same sighting, the same story and the same joke as everyone else in it.
